Put it back together

This is where it gets exciting! How do you do a ‘top-end rebuild’? What is a ‘main jet’? And everything in between. You’ll get a little mucky, but you’ll learn a lot!

What topicswill I learn?

The heart and soul of a motorbike.

What contents make up an engine? How do I rebuild it? Learn all this and what is a piston, connecting rod, gears, cylinder head, o-ring, small-end bearing and plated bore? Uncover the difference between a 'bottom end' and 'top end' and see how gaskets work.

Stop. In the name of love.

How do I bleed a set of brakes? Where are my brake pads? What are 'braided-lines' for? Understand all the various components such as discs, calipers, master cylinder, pots and more.

Acceleration VS. Top Speed!

Learn how varying your gearing set up will affect the top-speed or acceleration performance of your motorbike as well as how your chains tension is essential for engine longevity and safety.

Not as shocking as it seems.

Electrics are essential to even turn on your bike! How do I install a new battery? What is a wiring loom? Where can I find my spark plug if my bike isn't starting? Learn all of this and much more in this high voltage section!

A balancing act with a lot of mess.

Learn the various components of a carburetor. What are jets, needles, pilot and idle circuits and floats? How do I upgrade my airbox? What is an inlet manifold and reeds? There's a lot making all the difference, we'll cover it all.

Learn something new

Building a motorbike is a once in a lifetime experience. Something you will never forget. A great conversation starter.

Build confidence

The sense of achievement building a motorbike is huge! Seeing a project through and seeing it's not as hard as it looks.

Meet new people

The course is a great way to meet like-minded people. Die-hard fans to those just generally interested in a new challenge.

I have a motorbike already and wanted to learn to do my own servicing. Now I can do my own maintenance at home saving me money!

Will

Victoria College Student
I had a plan to buy old bikes and restore them, selling them for a profit. I've learnt the skills, now I'm ready to give this a go! Thanks!

Myles

Victoria College Student
I ride motorbikes and race, I already had some knowledge of bikes and engines. The course helped me consolidate my knowledge and now I will tune my bikes better!

A helping hand

Building a motorbike is as much about the personal development and finding the confidence to try something new and give it a go as it is about working together. If you go on to do your own maintenance at home or build a bike, you...

Just press this

No really. Hah! Gotcha! Do not put your fingers into a caliper and press the brake lever. This is an easy way to shorten the length of your fingers, but not a good idea for any other purposes, and we can’t think of any good...

Details, details, details

Inspecting the brakes is an important part of the process. What we found on this donor bike is that the seals of the pistons had cracked. This means they were added to the ‘repairs and replacement’ list produced along the Dismantle section of the build....

Smiles and laughs

“It’s called what?!” “Yes, it’s called a nipple. A bleed nipple that is.” The bleed nipple protrudes from the exterior of the caliper, usually covered with a little plastic dust cap. It’s purpose is to attach a ‘hose’ and bleed the brakes – the process...

A team effort

It’s all a team effort. Here is a great shot of 3 of the boys and course tutor, Josh, taking off the front brake system. Sounds like an easy job, and it is, it could easily done by one person but why do it alone...

Got a foot involved?

Gather round, gather round! Here we have it. The first week we got the tank off the motorbike and could look inside. There’s plenty to see! It’s understanding what it all means that’s the challenge. From left to right, you will see: – Battery housing...

A new direction

How do you feel about trying something new? Here’s a shot looking down the inside of a motorbike we’re dismantling as part of the Build a Bike course at Victoria College. Can you see the coolant reservoir? The Spark Plug HT lead? What about the...

Will he? Won’t he?

Here’s Will unclipping the carburetor. Will is one the 9 students on our Build a Bike Course at Victoria College for 2017/2018. The carb is clipped to the airbox, as well as to the inlet manifold. Using a screwdriver Will is loosening the clips allowing...

Smiles all around

What a great photo of all the lads! Think it’s safe to say they’re all having a good time with the look of those smiles! This is our Victoria College Student Course, one of the offerings from Build a Motorbike. The boys have really enjoyed...
